The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine focuses on translational research (spanning from molecular biology through to experimental medicine) and collaborates actively with cardiovascular groups in pre-clinical science departments and the Nuffield Department of Medicine.
Commitment and excellence in training and research has been recognised by the receipt of a British Heart Foundation Centre of Research Excellence Award and also by the BHF 4 year graduate student programme.
In the 2008 RAE results announced in December, the Department, together with colleagues from stroke research, received the highest quality rating of any cardiovascular medicine return in the country.
